
Military Reports Slain of 10,937 Terrorists in 2024: A Comprehensive Overview
The Nigerian military has reported significant achievements in its operations against terrorism throughout 2024. According to Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, troops neutralized 10,937 terrorists, apprehended 12,538 suspects, and rescued 7,063 hostages across various operational theaters.
In addition to these efforts, over 16,000 terrorist fighters and their families surrendered to Nigerian troops during the same period.
The military also targeted and eliminated several high-profile terrorist leaders, including:
- Dutse Mainasara Idda
- Mallam Saleh Umaru
- Mohammed Amadu
- Chinemerem (aka Bam Bam)
- Jeremiah Uzuoma (aka Escoba)
- Tochukwu Awo (aka Ojoto)
- Egwuatu
These operations have significantly degraded the operational capabilities of terrorist groups within the country.
Furthermore, the military’s efforts extended to combating economic sabotage. Troops recovered 8,815 weapons, 228,004 rounds of ammunition, and prevented oil theft amounting to an estimated ₦68,453,376,040.
The Defence Headquarters has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations in collaboration with neighboring countries and regional bodies to eradicate terrorism and ensure national security.
The military has also issued warnings to remaining terrorist leaders, including notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, describing him as a “dead man walking” and vowing to eliminate him as they have done with other terrorist commanders.
