Understanding the Psychology Behind Arson in Zimbabwe
In a tragic incident in Chinhoyi, Zimbabwe, a 21-year-old man named Knowledge Jani set fire to his father’s house and car after accusing his father and stepmother of practicing witchcraft.
Jani claimed their supposed witchcraft was responsible for his prolonged illness. During a heated argument, he shattered the windows of his father’s car, siphoned fuel from the vehicle, and used it to ignite both the house and the car.
Emergency responders managed to control the flames, but the damage was extensive, estimated at $14,000.
Jani was arrested at the scene and later sentenced to four years in prison, with one year suspended on the condition that he commits no further offenses. He will serve three years behind bars for the arson attack
