Labour Party’s Leadership Crisis Resolved: Abure Stays as Chairman
The Federal High Court in Abuja has affirmed Julius Abure as the substantive National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).
In the ruling, Justice Emeka Nwite declared that Abure’s leadership is legitimate and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize him as the rightful chair.
This judgment follows disputes over Abure’s re-election at the party’s March 2024 national convention, which INEC had previously invalidated, citing constitutional and electoral law violations.
However, the court found that the Labour Party had proven its case, upholding Abure’s leadership and ordering INEC to accord the party under his leadership all the necessary rights and privileges.
This judgment puts an end to a long-standing leadership crisis within the Labour Party, reinforcing Abure’s position ahead of upcoming elections.
