Akpabio’s Call to Combat Brain Drain in Nigeria
Senate President Godswill Akpabio recently urged Nigerians to prioritize their love for the country over financial gains, especially in the context of the “japa” trend, which refers to the increasing migration of skilled Nigerians abroad.
He expressed concern about the impact this brain drain is having on key sectors like education and healthcare, where staff shortages are affecting the quality of services.
Akpabio noted that while financial motivations are understandable, Nigerians should focus on contributing to national development by staying in the country and applying their expertise locally.
He further emphasized that sectors like education and healthcare are struggling due to the migration of skilled professionals, which leaves many institutions understaffed.
Akpabio assured that the National Assembly would continue to work on improving conditions for professionals to encourage them to stay and contribute to the growth of the nation.
