Rivers State Budget Controversy: Fubara vs. Wike Allies
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has ordered Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to re-submit the state’s 2024 budget to the faction of the House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule, which is loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike.
This ruling upholds an earlier judgment that nullified the passage of the N800 billion budget by a smaller faction of pro-Fubara lawmakers.
The court found that the budget, passed by only four lawmakers, violated the quorum requirement, and described the process as “executive recklessness.”
The court also reaffirmed Amaewhule as the legitimate Speaker of the House and barred Governor Fubara from interfering in Assembly affairs, including withholding funds or removing key officials.
