Umar Damagum Remains PDP Chairman Amid Court Restraint
A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a restraining order preventing the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), its National Executive Committee (NEC), and Board of Trustees (BoT) from removing Umar Damagum as the acting national chairman.
The court, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, ruled that Damagum can only be replaced during the party’s national convention, which is scheduled for December next year.
This decision follows a lawsuit filed by Senator Umar El-Gash Maina, who claimed that certain party members were plotting to replace Damagum in violation of the PDP’s constitution.
