George Baldock’s Drowning Confirmed: Football Community Mourning
Former Sheffield United and Panathinaikos defender George Baldock tragically passed away after drowning in the swimming pool at his home in Glyfada, Athens, on October 9, 2024.
According to reports from the Greek police, a post-mortem confirmed that his cause of death was drowning, and there was no evidence of foul play or criminal activity.
Baldock’s wife, who was in England at the time, raised the alarm after being unable to contact him, prompting the discovery of his body by the landlord of the property. Despite efforts to revive him,
Baldock was pronounced dead at the scene.
The football community, including Sheffield United, the Greek national team, and the English Football Association, has expressed deep sorrow over his untimely death.
He had recently moved to Panathinaikos after spending seven years with Sheffield United and had earned 12 caps playing for Greece.
