Allegations of Looting Emerge as Edo Prepares for Transition
Edo’s Governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, has raised concerns over alleged looting of government property as the current administration prepares to hand over power.
Philip Shaibu, the reinstated deputy governor, issued a stern warning to Permanent Secretaries and heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to prevent the looting of assets, emphasizing that they would be held accountable by the incoming administration for any missing property.
This statement sparked a war of words between Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki’s camp. Obaseki’s media team responded, stating that Shaibu, who remains impeached pending a court ruling, lacks the authority to issue such directives.
The administration is set to end in November 2024, with Okpebholo from the All Progressives Congress (APC) preparing to take over.
