AFCON 2024: Flight Diversion Explained by Libya’s Football Body
The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has clarified the circumstances surrounding the diversion of the Super Eagles’ flight ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Libya.
According to the LFF, the flight’s diversion to Al Abraq International Airport was not intentional and was due to routine air traffic control protocols and security checks.
They emphasized that such diversions are not uncommon in international air travel and that there was no deliberate attempt to sabotage the Nigerian team.
The LFF expressed respect for the Nigerian team and stated that Libya has always prioritized treating visiting teams with hospitality.
They also highlighted that their own national team faced logistical challenges in Nigeria previously but did not make public accusations against the Nigerian authorities.
The LFF reiterated their commitment to sportsmanship and unity in football.
