#EndBadGovernance: A Personal Account of Arrest and Release
A protester who was involved in the #EndBadGovernance movement recently shared photos and a personal account detailing his experience of being taken into custody by Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS).
He described how he was blindfolded, arrested, and detained in connection with the protests demanding better governance and an end to economic hardship.
These protests, which occurred in August 2024, resulted in the arrest of several activists.
The protester revealed the stark difference between his condition before being taken by DSS and after his release, shedding light on the harsh treatment faced by many detained activists.
Human rights groups, including the Take It Back (TIB) movement, have been actively advocating for the release of these protesters.
Some of the detainees have been granted bail, while others are still in custody. There have been multiple reports of mistreatment and unlawful detentions during these protests.
