Stop Exploiting the Poor: Kumuyi’s Ethical Message
Pastor William Kumuyi, the founder and General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has spoken out against the practice of exploiting poor church members in the name of “sowing seeds.”
In a strong message to fellow clergymen, Kumuyi urged pastors to stop taking advantage of their congregations by pressuring them to give, especially those who are struggling financially.
He emphasized that sowing seeds, a common practice in many churches where members are encouraged to give money or other offerings in the hope of receiving divine blessings, should not be manipulated to exploit the vulnerable.
Pastor Kumuyi’s message called for a more ethical and compassionate approach, reminding ministers that the gospel is not about burdening people but about uplifting them, spiritually and otherwise.
His remarks reflect growing concerns within some Christian circles about the commercialization of religion and the undue financial pressure placed on congregants, particularly the poor.
Kumuyi’s statement has been seen as a call for accountability and integrity in ministry, urging clergymen to focus on helping their members rather than enriching themselves.
