Farouk Lawan, a former Nigerian lawmaker, has been released from Kuje Custodial Centre after completing a five-year jail term.
He was convicted for accepting a $500,000 bribe from businessman Femi Otedola in 2012, while serving as chairman of a House committee investigating fuel subsidy fraud.
Originally sentenced to seven years in prison, Lawan’s sentence was reduced to five years following an appeal.
After his release, Lawan expressed gratitude to his supporters and is now beginning a new chapter of his life.
