Federal Government’s Support for Judges’ Welfare
The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has defended the Federal Government’s decision to provide housing for judges, describing it as essential for enabling judges to focus fully on their responsibilities.
Speaking during the launch of a project to construct 40 residential units for judges in Abuja, she emphasized that providing a secure and comfortable living environment will help judges concentrate on their demanding roles without distractions.
The housing initiative aims to improve the welfare of judicial officers, which in turn is expected to enhance their performance and efficiency in handling the significant backlog of cases in Nigerian courts.
This initiative, part of a broader infrastructure push by the government, includes road construction to improve access to the new judicial quarters.
Minister Nyesom Wike highlighted that such measures would also ensure that judges feel secure and supported in their work.
