CAF Grants Nigeria Victory, Penalizes Libya $50K
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) awarded Nigeria a victory and three points in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Libya.
This decision follows an investigation into an incident at Benghazi’s Al Abaq airport, where Nigeria’s Super Eagles were allegedly held for over 20 hours without adequate provisions upon arrival, prompting them to return home without playing the match.
CAF found Libya in violation of multiple AFCON and disciplinary codes, resulting in a $50,000 fine for the Libyan Football Federation and the match forfeited in Nigeria’s favor with a 3-0 scoreline
