Nigerian-British Officer Fired for Biting Colleague at UK Party
A Nigerian-British police officer, PC Shola Balogun, has been dismissed from the UK Metropolitan Police following an incident at a colleague’s birthday party.
The incident, which occurred on April 22, 2022, involved Balogun allegedly biting another officer during what began as light-hearted horseplay but escalated unexpectedly.
During the party, Balogun reportedly removed the victim’s glasses and, after some exchanges, leaned in and bit him on the face.
Although Balogun contested this version of events, claiming the glasses were knocked off accidentally, medical records supported the victim’s account.
The misconduct panel, after reviewing the case, concluded that Balogun’s actions undermined public trust in the police force, emphasizing that police officers are expected to maintain high standards of conduct both on and off duty.
Despite having previously received positive character references, Balogun’s prior disciplinary history contributed to the decision to dismiss him without notice.
