Abuja Streetlight Vandalism: FCTA’s Efforts Lead to 16 Arrests
As part of an intensified effort to protect public infrastructure, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) recently apprehended 16 suspects connected to streetlight vandalism in Abuja.
The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, directed this crackdown, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the city’s streetlight installations, which have been a priority for improving security and nighttime visibility across Abuja.
The suspects are accused of targeting solar-powered streetlights in various areas, damaging batteries, panels, and poles, thereby undermining security and safety efforts.
Dr. Peter Olumuji from the FCTA’s Security Department called for more resident involvement in reporting suspicious activities to help protect public assets.
The FCTA plans to continue enforcing stringent measures to prevent further vandalism, with those arrested expected to face prosecution soon.
