Kemi Badenoch Unresponsive: Abike Dabiri’s Stance on Nigerian Citizenship
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), recently addressed the lack of response from Kemi Badenoch, the British Secretary of State for Business and Trade, regarding her Nigerian heritage.
Dabiri noted that despite multiple attempts to engage Badenoch, there has been no response.
She clarified that NiDCOM does not intend to impose Nigerian identity on individuals who choose not to embrace it, suggesting that the organization respects personal choices regarding identity and heritage.
Dabiri’s remarks underscore NiDCOM’s stance on supporting Nigerians abroad while respecting the personal boundaries of those who do not wish to engage with their heritage on an official level.
This comment also reflects the agency’s commitment to work with willing members of the diaspora community, as opposed to imposing national identity on those who may not prioritize it.
