DisCos Raise Meter Prices by 28.03%: Discover How This Affects Your Bills
Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in Nigeria have announced a 28.03% increase in the prices of prepaid meters, marking the second hike in just four months.
This recent adjustment has raised concerns among consumers who are already struggling with rising living costs.
Under the new pricing, a single-phase prepaid meter now costs approximately ₦81,975, up from ₦63,061, while a three-phase meter now stands at around ₦143,836, up from ₦117,910.
DisCos have attributed the increase to inflation, exchange rate volatility, and rising operational costs, which they claim have affected the pricing of meter components.
However, consumer advocacy groups are calling for a review of the pricing and for government intervention to ensure affordable access to electricity metering.
They argue that the frequent hikes place an additional burden on customers who are trying to reduce their energy costs by using prepaid meters.
