Treason and Minors: AGF’s Bold Declaration on Legal Proceedings
Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) recently asserted that no law in Nigeria prohibits the trial of minors, even in cases involving treason charges.
This statement comes in response to debates surrounding the legal handling of minors accused of serious offenses.
The AGF emphasized that Nigerian law provides for minors’ trials under specific legal protections, though they may differ from those for adults.
This has sparked conversations about the legal framework for juvenile justice in cases involving national security or treason.
Whereas 32 minors were cited as defendants in the first 10-count charge marked: FHC/CR/503/2024, in the second charge marked: FHC/CR/527/2024, which contained four counts, five minors were listed as defendants in the matter.
