Military Checkpoint in Abia Hit by Armed Attack: Two Soldiers Dead
Two soldiers were killed during an attack by gunmen on a military checkpoint in Abia State on November 13, 2024.
The incident occurred along the Umuahia–Owerri Road in the Umuahia South Local Government Area, where troops from the Joint Task Force South East (Operation Udoka) were stationed.
The gunmen, suspected to be affiliated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), launched the assault in the early hours.
Despite the tragic loss, the soldiers successfully repelled the attackers, causing them to flee. The assailants left behind two vehicles—one a Sienna and the other a Lexus—used during the attack.
