Breaking: Ex-DSS Director Debunks Lakurawa Terror Group Claims
Former DSS Director Dennis Amachree and other security experts have emphasized that the Lakurawa group is not a new terror organization in Nigeria.
It is linked to extremists from the Sahel region and has been active since around 2017 or 2018. Initially thought to have been displaced, the group has re-emerged, operating mainly in Sokoto and Kebbi states.
Experts like Bulama Bukarti noted that Lakurawa enforces a justice system in areas under its control and employs tactics like using drones for surveillance and managing disputes in communities.
Their activities, including levying taxes on residents and undermining traditional authorities, present a significant threat to regional stability.
There are calls for immediate and comprehensive military action to prevent the group from expanding its influence further.
However, the government and military strategists are cautious about overreacting, emphasizing targeted and strategic responses to curb their operations.
