Exploring the NJC’s Decision: Suspension of Rivers and Anambra Judges
The National Judicial Council (NJC) has suspended two judges for misconduct. Justice G.C. Aguma of the Rivers State High Court and Justice A.O. Nwabunike of the Anambra State High Court were both found guilty of judicial misconduct and suspended without pay for one year.
They will also be placed on a two-year “watch list.”
Justice Aguma’s misconduct involved granting a garnishee order in a case that was primarily to be enforced in Abuja, despite the execution being stayed by another court. His quick approval of the order raised questions of potential bias.
Justice Nwabunike, on the other hand, was found to have violated judicial conduct rules by making questionable legal interpretations and granting ex parte orders without proper procedure.
