Central Bank Directs Banks: Prioritize ATM Cash Loading to Avoid Penalties
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed banks to ensure their ATMs are fully loaded with cash and accessible for customer withdrawals.
This initiative comes as part of efforts to address cash circulation challenges and counter the activities of naira hawkers.
Banks found non-compliant with this directive may face sanctions, according to CBN Governor Yemi Cardoso.
The CBN has also deployed a monitoring system to ensure adherence, emphasizing that sufficient cash should always be available at ATMs, especially during non-banking hours.
To further ease cash flow, the CBN plans to inject an additional ₦1.4 trillion into circulation within the next three months.
This measure aims to stabilize the cash supply and facilitate proper monetary operations.
