Abducted Nurse Freed: Surviving Six Years in Boko Haram Captivity
Alice Loksha, a 42-year-old nurse who was abducted by Boko Haram in 2018 while working with UNICEF in Borno State, has escaped after six years in captivity.
She managed to flee from a camp in Dogon Chuku on October 24, 2024, and reached Nigerian military authorities five days later, where she received medical care and assistance.
During her captivity, Alice was forcibly married to two insurgent commanders, Abu Umar and later Abu Simak, after Umar’s death.
She also gave birth to a son during this time. Another woman, Fayina Ali, kidnapped in 2020, also escaped after enduring similar traumatic conditions.
Both women are now undergoing psychosocial support and rehabilitation, facilitated by the Borno State government, to aid their reintegration into society.
