Cultist-Linked Homicide: Ex-LG Councillor Murdered in Ogun
Mutiu Akinbami, a former local government councillor in Abeokuta North, Ogun State, was tragically killed by suspected cultists on November 16, 2024. Known locally as “Egor,” Akinbami was ambushed while riding a motorcycle near the Brewery area of Abeokuta around 6:00 p.m.
According to police reports, the attackers, in a white tinted Hilux vehicle, shot him in the head. He was rushed to the Ijaiye General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Akinbami had reportedly been a staff member at the Federal College of Education in Abeokuta and was also on a police watchlist.
Investigations are ongoing, and arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
This tragic event underscores the ongoing challenges posed by cult-related violence in Ogun State and the need for enhanced security measures to address such threats.
