Heartbreaking Hospital Blaze: 10 Young Lives Lost, 16 Injured
A tragic fire broke out in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday night, resulting in the deaths of 10 newborns and injuries to 16 others.
The fire, which began around 10:45 p.m., is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, exacerbated by the highly oxygenated environment in the ward. Of the 54 babies admitted to the NICU, several were rescued, but the intensity of the fire hampered evacuation efforts.
Emergency responders, including the fire brigade and local authorities, quickly arrived at the scene to manage rescue and relief operations.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep condolences and ordered an investigation into the incident, with a detailed report expected within 12 hours.
The injured are currently receiving medical care.
