FG’s N112bn Budget: A Commitment to Safeguard Schools by 2026
The Nigerian Federal Government has allocated ₦112 billion for safeguarding schools over the next three years as part of its Safe Schools Initiative.
This plan aims to address security concerns that have severely impacted education in Nigeria.
The funds will enhance school security, train special response squads, and strengthen the capacity of communities and law enforcement to deter and respond to threats.
The initiative, which began implementation in January 2023, is coordinated by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
It targets public schools in high-risk areas, aiming to secure 50% of these institutions by 2026.
Measures include equipping schools with security infrastructure and improving response mechanisms to incidents such as attacks and abductions.
