Pakistan Grieves: Tragic Gunmen Assault Claims Over 40 Lives
At least 41 people, including women and children, were killed in a tragic attack on passenger vehicles in the Kurram district of Pakistan, near the Afghan border.
The convoy, consisting of around 200 vehicles, was traveling under police protection due to ongoing sectarian violence in the region.
Gunmen ambushed the convoy, first targeting the police escort and then indiscriminately firing at the vehicles.
Additionally, 16 people sustained critical injuries in the attack.
Most of the passengers were from the Shia community, and the incident follows a series of sectarian clashes in the area this year.
Authorities suspect the involvement of anti-Shia militant groups operating near the border.
Rescue efforts were hampered by the attackers’ strategic positioning, which allowed them to fire from both sides of the road.
