Anambra Chaos: Irate Mob Targets Revenue Collectors After Tragic Death
Two revenue collectors in Anambra State were reportedly set ablaze by a mob following a tragic incident in which their actions allegedly led to the death of an innocent bystander.
The conflict arose in Onitsha, where the revenue agents were accused of extorting motorists and creating chaos.
Witnesses claim the collectors caused an accident while attempting to stop a vehicle, resulting in a fatal crash. This incited outrage among the community, leading to the mob’s violent response.
Local authorities, including the Anambra Police Command, have condemned the jungle justice and are investigating the matter.
The state government has also faced criticism for the aggressive activities of revenue enforcement teams.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo recently launched initiatives aimed at tackling touting and lawlessness in the state, but tensions between residents and revenue enforcement agents remain high.
