Port Harcourt Refinery Begins Operations: First Batch of Petroleum Products Dispatched
The Port Harcourt Refinery in Nigeria has officially resumed operations, marking a significant milestone for the country’s energy sector.
The refinery, with a combined capacity of 210,000 barrels per day, began operations on December 20, 2023, after completing the first phase of rehabilitation.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has stated that this development will help reduce the country’s reliance on imported petroleum products.
This is expected to lead to a reduction in fuel prices, which have been as high as N617 per litre, and to ease the ongoing energy crisis in the country.
The government has indicated that this refinery’s full capacity will contribute significantly to meeting domestic demand, with hopes of further reductions in fuel prices as other refineries like those in Warri and Kaduna also come online.
