Exonerated Man Awarded $13 Million After Decades in Prison for Wrongful Conviction
Victor Rosario, who was wrongly convicted and spent 32 years in prison for a fire-related murder he did not commit, has been awarded $13 million in compensation.
His conviction was overturned in 2014, following a lengthy legal battle that revealed his confession had been coerced.
Rosario had been arrested in 1982 for a fire that killed eight people, including five children, but there was no physical evidence to support the claim of arson.
His legal team successfully argued that the authorities fabricated evidence, and he was eventually freed. This settlement marks the largest payout in New England history for wrongful imprisonment.
