Two Nigerian officials—an Immigration officer and a police officer—were sentenced to jail in connection with criminal activities involving fraudulent schemes.
The Immigration officer, Gilbert Dabiet Onyemi, was convicted for defrauding a victim of N800,000 by falsely promising a job placement in the Nigerian Correctional Services.
He was sentenced to one year in prison or a fine of N60,000.
Similarly, Saleh Haruna, another government official, was convicted for conspiracy and forgery in a separate case, involving defrauding someone out of N950,000 for a non-existent property deal.
Haruna received a sentence of five years or a N200,000 fine.
These convictions were part of ongoing efforts by the EFCC to combat fraud within public institutions.
