Nigerians Contribute Over N40bn to UK Visa Revenue in Two Years
Between 2023 and 2024, the United Kingdom reportedly generated over ₦40 billion from visa application fees paid by Nigerians.
This amount is tied to the high number of visa applications during this period, with 324,000 visas issued in 2022 and approximately 132,000 issued in just the first half of 2023.
The increase in visa applications stems from Nigeria’s significant contribution to the UK’s student and migration numbers.
Nigerians represent a substantial percentage of international students in the UK, second only to India, and many bring dependents, further driving demand.
Additionally, increased visa fees, recently adjusted to cover processing and associated services, have contributed to this substantial revenue.
The growing ties between the UK and Nigeria, especially in education and migration, highlight the relationship’s importance to both nations.
