Illegal Mining Scandal in Anambra: Chinese National and Five Others Arrested
A Chinese national and five others were recently arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State for illegal mining activities.
The arrests occurred in the Odele Aguleri area of Anambra East Local Government, following a tip-off.
The group, including individuals aged 18 to 45, was allegedly operating without the necessary permits, causing revenue losses to both the state and federal governments.
This violates the Nigeria Minerals and Mining Act of 2007.
The NSCDC, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, has emphasized the importance of obtaining proper licenses and adhering to regulations.
The suspects are currently under investigation and will face prosecution upon its conclusion.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration has been actively combating illegal mining, citing its environmental impact, including erosion, and the need to block revenue leaks.
This crackdown aligns with broader efforts to regulate the mining sector across the state
