Federal Agricultural Inputs Misused: Jigawa Governor Orders Arrest
The Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, recently ordered the arrest of a local chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) for allegedly diverting agricultural inputs meant for farmers.
This action came after a surprise visit to several input distribution centers under the federal government’s National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro Pocket Programme.
During the visit, Namadi discovered that farmers were being denied their rightful allocations, and some inputs were being sold to traders instead of being distributed to the intended beneficiaries.
In Kiyawa Local Government Area, the AFAN chairman was specifically accused of inflating prices for the inputs.
The governor expressed his frustration over the irregularities and emphasized that strict measures would be taken against anyone caught in such acts of corruption.
