VP Shettima on Kemi Badenoch: Nigerians’ Pride Vs. Controversy
Vice President Kashim Shettima recently addressed the issue of Kemi Badenoch, the UK Conservative Party leader of Nigerian descent, during the 10th Annual Migration Dialogue in Abuja.
Shettima expressed pride in Badenoch’s accomplishments, despite her outspoken criticisms of Nigeria. He mentioned that while she has the right to her opinions, including her personal views on Nigeria, the country remains the “greatest black nation on earth.”
This remark came after Badenoch’s past criticisms of Nigeria, particularly regarding political mismanagement and corruption.
Shettima also highlighted Nigeria’s global significance, noting that by 2050, the nation is projected to be one of the largest in the world, underscoring its potential on the global stage.
Badenoch has remained silent in response to efforts by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) to reach out to her after her election as leader.
While some view her silence as a symbol of frustration with Nigeria’s political issues, it’s clear that her criticisms focus more on the nation’s governance rather than a rejection of her heritage.
