German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has arrived in Nigeria for a three-day state visit, highlighting the strengthening ties between the two nations.
He was received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja by Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
During his visit, Steinmeier will hold discussions with President Bola Tinubu and ECOWAS Commission President Alieu Touray.
His itinerary includes a trip to Lagos, where he will engage with Nigerian business leaders, visit a start-up hub, and meet cultural figures such as Dr. Nike Okundaye and Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka.
He is also accompanied by a business delegation comprising executives from major German companies in IT, energy, and high-tech, signaling increased German investment interest in Nigeria.
This visit builds on recent diplomatic engagements, including Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s visit to Nigeria in 2023 and President Tinubu’s visit to Germany the same year, emphasizing the mutual recognition of their roles as economic leaders on their continents.
