Facebook Dodges N60bn Fine: Court Blocks ARCON’s Move
A Nigerian court recently dismissed the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON)’s lawsuit against Meta Platforms (the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp).
The suit sought to impose a fine on Meta for allegedly publishing unapproved ads without following Nigerian regulations, which ARCON claimed caused revenue loss for the Nigerian government.
However, ARCON chose to discontinue the case, which led the court to strike it out.
This followed objections from Meta, arguing that the Nigerian court did not have jurisdiction over the matter as Meta is a foreign entity.
