The Consequence of Honesty: E.A Adeboye’s Close Call
Pastor E.A. Adeboye recently shared a personal story in which he revealed how he nearly faced serious consequences for telling the truth during his teachings.
He apologized publicly for a past statement in which he wrongly suggested that paying tithe was essential for making it to heaven.
According to Adeboye, this statement was incorrect, and he expressed regret for it, stating that the Bible does not support such an idea.
Instead, the key to salvation lies in holiness and being at peace with others, not in the payment of tithes.
This clarification followed after a period of reflection, and he emphasized that it’s possible to be right in one context but wrong in another, referencing his own earlier teachings about tithing.
In the sermon, he noted how his views evolved, acknowledging the biblical perspective on giving and emphasizing that people should give beyond the 10% traditionally recommended, with some believers, for instance, increasing their contributions to as high as 90%.
This change in perspective shows how his views have shifted over time.
