Simon Ekpa: From Political Activism to Sharing Jail with Violent Offenders
Simon Ekpa, the self-acclaimed leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been sent to prison by a Finnish court in Lahti.
He faces charges of public incitement to commit crimes with terrorist intent, allegedly linked to violent separatist activities in southeastern Nigeria.
The offenses are said to have been committed in 2021 and involved the use of social media platforms to propagate IPOB’s agenda.
Finnish authorities have ruled that his case is not eligible for bail due to its nature.
Ekpa is accused of inciting violence and organizing unlawful activities, leading to a broader investigation into related financial crimes. His trial is scheduled for May 2025.
