INEC Hosts Benin Republic Election Commission: A Knowledge Exchange

Officials from the Benin Republic Electoral Commission (CENA) have arrived in Nigeria to engage with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in preparation for their upcoming elections.

The delegation seeks to learn from Nigeria’s experience in managing large-scale elections and implementing advanced technologies in the electoral process.

During their visit, the Beninese officials will observe key aspects of INEC’s operations, including voter registration, electronic voting systems, and election result transmission.

The partnership highlights the growing recognition of Nigeria’s electoral reforms and technological advancements, particularly the use of the BVAS (Bimodal Voter Accreditation System) and IReV (INEC Result Viewing Portal).

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, welcomed the delegation and reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to supporting democratic growth in West Africa.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing shared challenges such as voter education, combating electoral fraud, and enhancing transparency.

The visit underscores a regional effort to strengthen democratic institutions and improve electoral integrity.

Benin Republic is set to conduct its elections soon, and lessons from Nigeria are expected to guide CENA in enhancing their electoral framework.
