Man Nabbed by Edo Police for Fabricating Kidnap Alarm on X
In Edo State, a 35-year-old security guard named Akpooh Edet was arrested for faking his own kidnapping and demanding a ransom of ₦50 million from his employer, Rubber Estate in Ovia South West Local Government Area.
Edet eventually reduced the ransom to ₦15 million. He staged the kidnapping as a way to extort money and was caught after a joint investigation by the Department of State Services (DSS) and Ondo Amotekun Corps.
Two accomplices were also apprehended as part of the scheme.
Edet had been employed by the company for over a decade, and his disappearance initially led his employer to notify the authorities, who tracked him to a hideout in Ondo State.
Both Edet and another suspect are being handed over to the DSS for further investigation.
