Ex-Presidential Candidate Fined N5m for Frivolous Litigation Against Tinubu’s 2023 Victory
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has imposed a fine of ₦5 million on Ambrose Albert Owuru, a former presidential candidate of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP), for filing what it described as frivolous and vexatious lawsuits against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Owuru’s latest suit sought the removal of Tinubu from office, claiming that he (Owuru) won the 2019 presidential election and that his mandate was allegedly usurped by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The court dismissed the case, criticizing Owuru’s repeated filing of unsubstantiated claims.
Justice Uwani Musa Aba-Aji also instructed the Supreme Court’s Registry not to accept further frivolous suits from him.
Previously, the Court of Appeal had fined Owuru ₦40 million for similar actions involving President Tinubu, INEC, and others.
