Lagos Government Cracks Down on Beggars: Video Reveals Arrests for Public Nuisance
The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce recently conducted operations targeting street begging across the metropolis, resulting in the arrest of 17 individuals, including eight minors.
The task force focused on major routes such as Alfred Rewane, Osborne, Alexandra, and Bourdillon in Ikoyi, as well as the Lekki-Ajah express corridor in Victoria Island.
The Lagos State government has emphasized that street begging is illegal, with laws in place to deter such activities. Notably, individuals found begging with children risk facing up to 10 years in prison.
The government also advises against giving alms to beggars on the streets, as it is considered unlawful. Instead, citizens are encouraged to support recognized charitable organizations to assist those in need.
These measures are part of broader efforts to maintain public order and address the challenges associated with street begging in Lagos State.
