Presidency Report: North West High Crime Rates vs. South East Safety
According to the National Bureau of Statistics’ (NBS) 2024 Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey, Nigeria experienced approximately 51.89 million crime incidents between May 2023 and April 2024.
The North West region reported the highest number of incidents, totaling 14.4 million, while the South East recorded the lowest with 6.2 million incidents.
The survey also highlighted that 65% of households affected by kidnapping paid a total of ₦2.23 trillion in ransom, averaging ₦2.7 million per incident.
The North West accounted for the highest ransom payments, amounting to ₦1.2 trillion, whereas the South East had the lowest at ₦85.4 billion.
