Niger State in Grief: Bomb Blast Claims Farmer’s Life, Injures Others
A tragic incident occurred on Thursday morning in Bassa community, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, where a series of explosions resulted in the death of a farmer and severe injuries to four individuals, including three siblings.
The victims were en route to their farm to harvest crops when the first explosion detonated as the siblings—Mali (20), Nehemiah (14), and Jona (15)—were riding a motorcycle between Bassa and Gwadara communities.
A second explosion occurred when rescuers arrived; their motorcycle triggered another explosive device, leading to the death of one rescuer, identified as Dauda Haruna, and causing severe injuries to others.
The father of the injured siblings, Mr. Enoch, recounted the harrowing experience, noting that this was the second explosion in Bassa within the month.
He and his wife were following their children on foot when they heard the blast. Upon reaching the scene, they discovered their children among the victims.
The injured are currently receiving treatment at the IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna. Community members have expressed deep concern over the presence of unexploded ordnance in the area, urging authorities to conduct thorough sweeps to prevent further tragedies.
