Maitama Property in Limelight as Yahaya Bello Seeks Bail Relief
Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, facing charges of alleged N110 billion fraud, has been granted bail by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama.
The court set bail at ₦500 million, requiring three sureties of equal amount. These sureties must be notable Nigerians owning landed properties in prime Abuja areas, including Maitama, Jabi, Utako, Apo, Guzape, Garki, and Asokoro.
During the proceedings, Bello’s legal team, led by Chief Joseph Daudu (SAN), requested the court to broaden the scope of acceptable property locations beyond Maitama to other areas within the FCT. This appeal aimed to facilitate the fulfillment of bail conditions.
Justice Maryanne Anenih, presiding over the case, acknowledged the defense’s request and granted bail with the specified conditions.
Additionally, Bello is required to deposit his international passport and other travel documents with the court. He will remain in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre until all bail conditions are met.
This development follows Bello’s earlier bail grant by the Federal High Court in Abuja over separate charges involving alleged money laundering of N80 billion.
