Rivers State Security Boost: Capture of Alleged Kidnap Ring Leader
In a significant operation, the Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a notorious kidnap kingpin, Nwile Bete, aged 30, in Port Harcourt.
The arrest led to the rescue of a 10-year-old boy, Master Emmanuel Jonah, who had been abducted by Bete on November 25, 2024.
Following the abduction, Bete demanded a ransom of ₦5 million for the child’s release. The boy’s mother promptly reported the incident to the police, prompting the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to take swift action.
Acting on credible intelligence, officers tracked Bete to Rumuekeni School Road in Rumuekeni Town, Port Harcourt, where he was apprehended.
During interrogation, Bete confessed to the crime and led operatives to Sogho village in the Khana area, where the boy was rescued unharmed.
The victim has since been debriefed and reunited with his family, while Bete remains in custody. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of Bete’s gang who are currently at large. The police have assured that the suspect will face charges in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
This arrest is a significant breakthrough and part of the police command’s broader strategy to tackle crime and criminal activities in Rivers State.
The swift action of the police in rescuing the victim and apprehending the suspect has been commended by the community.
In a related development, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Mohammed, has honored officers who demonstrated outstanding dedication and professionalism in the line of duty.
Among the honorees was Chief Superintendent of Police Julian Igbudu, the Commander of the C4i Strike Force, recognized for his remarkable leadership in the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, which also resulted in the recovery of two serviceable pistols and thirty rounds of ammunition.
