Port-Harcourt Refinery Fully Functional: Official Update from NNPCL
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has refuted claims that the Port Harcourt Refinery has ceased operations. In a statement released on December 21, 2024, NNPCL emphasized that the refinery remains fully operational, with ongoing loading activities.
Olufemi Soneye, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, addressed the rumors, stating, “We wish to clarify that such reports are totally false as the refinery is fully operational as verified a few days ago by former Group Managing Directors of NNPC.”
The Port Harcourt Refining Company operates two plants: the old refinery, commissioned in 1965 with a capacity of 60,000 barrels per day, and the new refinery, commissioned in 1989 with a capacity of 150,000 barrels per day. Both facilities have undergone rehabilitation efforts to enhance their efficiency and output.
NNPCL’s recent statement aims to reassure stakeholders and the public of the refinery’s operational status, countering any misinformation regarding its functionality.
