Kwara Poultry Farmer Dies in Police Custody: The Debt Dilemma
A poultry farmer named Jimoh Tunji Abdulqadir has died while in the custody of the Kwara State Police Command. He was arrested on December 19, 2024, following a complaint alleging that he owed someone ₦220,000.
Family members allege that Abdulqadir was tortured to death by police officers, citing injuries observed on his body, including a swollen face and blood oozing from his nose. They dispute the police’s claim that he committed suicide in the cell, calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances of his death.
The Kwara State Police Command has acknowledged the incident and described the loss as tragic. According to the police spokeswoman, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the deceased was invited on an alleged case of obtaining money by false pretence to the sum of ₦220,000.
She stated that discrete investigations into the incident have commenced to ascertain the cause, and further developments will be communicated as the investigation progresses.
